Our Organization
Dairy Farmers of Canada is the national policy, lobbying and promotional organization representing Canada’s 14,600 dairy farms. DFC strives to create favourable conditions for the Canadian dairy industry, today and in the future. It works to maintain policies that foster the viability of Canadian dairy producers and promote dairy products and their health benefits.
The organization is run for producers, by producers. Dairy producers fund its operation, including promotional activities.
Our Policies
Dairy farmers from across Canada work collectively to develop and promote policies that allow dairy farm businesses to remain viable. They are advocate of the need for predictable imports, clear labeling rules and high standards in the making of dairy products.
Dairy Producers Vision
“A dairy industry comprised of profitable, independent farm businesses operating within a dynamic system of supply management, producing and promoting safe and high quality dairy products for consumers.”
Dairy Farmers of Canada – School Nutrition Team
One of the major areas of priority to Dairy Farmers of
Canada staff is Nutrition Education. There are twenty Registered Dietitians working across Canada to support
the health and well-being of Canadians. In Ontario, Dairy Farmers of Canada’s Nutrition staff has a close
working relationship with the provinces educators, and are heavily involved in the development, facilitation
and evaluation of Nutrition Education programs for students. These programs are used by teachers to fulfill
curriculum requirements in health, physical education, mathematics, language etc. The programs encourage the
development and practice of healthy eating habits according to Canada’s Food Guide. In particular one of the
programs – Power4Bones, which is part of the Ontario Osteoporosis Strategy, also encourages the development
of bone healthy eating and physical activity habits in grade 5 students.
