- Although clinical practice guidelines for osteoporosis exist, they are not followed consistently (Ontario Women’ Health Council, 2003).
- Osteoporosis research is continually evolving. With the development of new knowledge our understanding of the most effective ways to prevent and treat osteoporosis may change. (Ontario Women’s Health Council, 2003).
- Canadian researchers have been leaders in the prevention, diagnosis and management of osteoporosis, with their work being recognized throughout the world (Osteoporosis Canada website)
- Ontario must have the capacity to develop and assess new knowledge, and to integrate that knowledge into both policy and practice. (OWHC, 2003).
Research is central to the understanding of osteoporosis and explores the many elements of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, risk factors, quality of life, and management.
Through the Strategy, we will establish a network of researchers and stakeholders to advance research on
osteoporosis and bone health, promote knowledge transfer and evaluate progress on osteoporosis prevention and
management. We will monitor ongoing research both at home and internationally, and will coordinate and
provide leadership to internal and external research strategies as required.
