Topic: Men & Osteoporosis

Presenter: Dr. Aliya Khan, FRCPC, FACP, FACE
Objective: To understand the lower prevalence of osteoporosis in men, as well as to describe the diagnosis and treatment of men with osteoporosis based on the latest research advances.


Topic: Drug Treatments
Time: 9:45 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Presenter: Dr. Heather McDonald-Blumer, FRCPC
Objective: To review current pharmacological treatments, to discuss the relative merits of different therapies, and to outline new therapeutic directions for osteoporosis management.


Topic: 10-Year Absolute Fracture Risk
Time: 10:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Presenter: Dr. Robert G. Josse, BSc, MB, BS, FRCP, FRCPC, FACP, FACE
Objective: To describe major clinical risk factors affecting fracture risk independent of BMD; to assess absolute fracture risk from BMD and other clinical risk factors; to explain current Canadian and WHO approaches to absolute risk fracture assessment; to discuss the use of absolute fracture risk in guiding individual patient treatment, and the limitations of fracture risk assessment in clinical practice.
